In the past, I thought about retired life as a time of living a life of leisure. You wrap up your job, and you’re finally able to do whatever you desire with your time. Even if “whatever you desire” means resting on the sofa doing nothing.

Approved, I was pretty young when I had those thoughts, and I quickly grew out of them.

I was thinking about this the other day when I saw my next-door neighbor putting points away from his garage sale.

Prior to retiring, Mr. J managed a discount rate furnishings shop. It was virtually a one-man procedure, so he maintained active, reorganizing the display room and aiding to pack furnishings onto the shipment automobiles. He was relatively energetic and was in good shape for his age.

After retiring from the furnishings business, he went to help an area supermarket, working in the fruit and vegetables area. He suched as to travel and began taking more time off than the business was able to accommodate, so he resigned from that setting.

Yet you can just spend a lot time visiting loved ones. So Mr. J has spent the previous six months simply passing the time till he can think of something to do.

And it’s beginning to show.
